Bio

Jangle Bones is a Seattle-based musical group that fuses a range of traditional acoustic music…bluegrass, country blues, mountain fiddle music, and ragtime, to name a few…into a powerful and extremely danceable sound, which rings with rural mountain authenticity, while reaching to a much more progressive market.

The creative core of the band consists of Sean Divine and Cort Armstrong, who have been playing and singing together since 1995. The fine-tuned yet natural singing blend of the longtime musical partners sets the stage for the band’s musical panorama, which is inspired by the likes of the Stanley Brothers, Merle Travis, John Hartford, Rev. Gary Davis, and Bob Wills, just to name a few “major” influences.

If singing, and the actual songs themselves, are the focus of the band, the musicianship of the quartet is the rock on which the band stands. Divine’s harmonica career, which features his longtime blues project, the Jelly Rollers, demonstrates the strong influence of his mentor Phil Wiggins, but also his ability to stretch beyond the idiom of the blues. Armstrong, who has led his own band, Blue Rooster, since 1999, based in Asheville, NC, has tailored a style of finger picking the guitar which seems as at home in bluegrass as in the country blues from whence it came. Along with the seasoned blues bass of Greg Roberts, and the solid drums of Kevin Cook, the band rises above the sum of its parts…and it’s happy to take the listener with it.
